What Some Have Observed:

Motor Authority reports: “At first glance, the new S60 features definite coupe-like proportions, accompanied by strong shoulders, which together give it a look that is very similar to the design of the Jaguar XF.   There are, however, plenty of unique elements such as the traditional Volvo grille and sculptured headlamps that will help the car battle it out in one of the industry’s toughest segments.”

Jalopnik reports, “In the engine compartment, the 2012 S60 range will, from launch, be available with a choice of two diesels and one gas engine.” The diesel editions are most likely headed for the European market.  The gasoline edition may be the only version to reach our shores.

It’s “an uprated high-performance 3.0-liter T6 gas engine (a Ford short inline-six) rated at 304bhp,” according to Jalopnik.  A six-speed automatic transmission will be the only one offered.  The first S60 models to reach U.S. dealerships will be all-wheel drive, though a front-wheel-drive variant is expected.

Edmunds Inside Line adds, “Volvo, of course, never forgets its roots, so the 2012 Volvo S60 will also show off the company’s latest bit of safety technology, Pedestrian Detection with full auto brake. This is an enhancement of the City Safety collision avoidance system in current cars and employs a front-grille-mounted radar unit and a mirror-mounted camera to detect pedestrians over 31 inches tall.”
